Travel & Stay

Accommodations

Agriturismo Belagaggio and Tenuta Santo Pietro

We would love nothing more than for our closest family and friends to spend these four days getting to know one another and enjoying the magic of Tuscany together. In light of that, we have booked out two estates (Agriturisimo Belagaggio and Tenuta Santo Pietro), which can each accommodate 30 guests.

It is our plan to heavily subsidize the cost of accommodations, food and drinks in an effort to remove additional financial burden from our guests. If you are able to make this trip to celebrate with us and plan to stay at Agriturisimo Belagaggio or Tenuta Santo Pietro, we simply ask that each adult guest make a contribution $200 toward those three nights of accommodations, all meals and alcohol for four days. We will hold spots for the first 60 to RSVP and provide payment (Venmo @Erin-Markey-2 or @Ryan-Holmgren).

Due to the varied nature of the room/apartment layouts of each estate, we will assign location and rooms on a first come, first serve basis. The majority of wedding events will be held at Agriturisimo Belagaggio, however, Tenuta Santo Pietro is a short, 8-minute drive away. Carpooling and shuttles will be coordinated and ample parking is available at both venues.

Other lodging options

It is our strong preference that all of our guests stay at the two beautiful, authentic, and family-run estates above. However, you are more than welcome to find your own accommodations in the area should you seek additional space or lodging for travel companions joining you in Italy but not attending wedding festivities. Please reach out to Erin and Ryan for suggestions in Montefollonico, Pienza or nearby areas.

Flights

We recommend guests fly into Florence (FLR) or Rome (FCO).

We would love nothing more than for you to save money by flying to Italy on points and miles, perhaps in a lie-flat seat! As you know, we are huge proponents of the points and miles game, so much so that we’ve created a short travel hacking 101 guide and a list of our top suggested credit cards for guests. Let Erin or Ryan know if we can help you earn or redeem points and miles.

Otherwise, we recommend monitoring your preferred dates with a flight tracker, such as Google Flights, and then booking your airfare when the price drops.

To find discounted airfare, you also might consider subscribing to discount flight newsletters such as Going and Dollar Flight Club.

Getting to Tuscany

By car

  • From Florence: ~1.5 hours

  • From Rome: ~2.5 hours

In Italy, we’ve had good experiences with the rental car agency Sixt and Drivalia, though Hertz, Enterprise, Avis and Europcar are good options as well. Although we’ve never been asked for them, rental car companies technically require that drivers have an International Driving Permit. These can be acquired from AAA for $20. As we get closer, we hope to coordinate flight times for guests and encourage car pooling to lessen costs and burdens for traveling to the venue. Our experience driving in Tuscany has been unproblematic and easy to navigate, however, we understand the nerves that can come with renting a car in another country. If you have any specific concerns, please reach out to Erin and Ryan and we will help sort out options.

By train

  • From Florence: ~2 hours

    • From Florence Airport Peretola (FLR), take the train to Santa Maria Novella station. From Santa Maria Novella, catch a train to Chiusi-Chianciano Termini in Chiusi, which is the closest stop to Pienza. You’ll then be about a 40-minute cab ride from either estate.

  • From Rome (~2 hours)

    • From Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), take a train to Roma Termini. From Roma Termini, take the Trenitalia train toward Firenze. The nearest stop to Pienza is Chiusi-Chianciano Termini in Chiusi. You’ll then be about a 40-minute cab ride from either estate.

By private transfer

  • From Florence: ~1.5 hours, ~$400 one-way for 3-7 passengers

  • From Rome: ~2.5 hours, ~$600 one-way for 3-7 passengers

Private transfers will receive you at the airport and drop you off at either estate. Some options departing from Florence and Rome include Transfeero, Hire in Italy and Niccoli Limousine Service.

Rideshares

Near Pienza, there is no reliable ridesharing service similar to Uber or Lyft, but taxis are readily available. However, in the larger cities, such as Florence or Rome, Uber and Lyft are available, as are taxis through apps like itTaxi and Free Now.
